Lake Steamship Company
The Lake Steamship Company was one of New York’s many steamship lines developed in the 1800s to navigate the state’s extensive lake system (in particular the Great Lakes) and the then “newly-formed” Erie Canal. As the economy strengthened and the railroads began to take hold, steamship business faltered. Eventually almost all of the steamship lines were eventually purchased by railroad lines before being phased out all together.

This crisp certificate features two wonderfully detailed vignettes, including one of the famous “Reapers” – pictured on the left side. Ornate bordering and sunray pattern complete this impressive piece.
