This company was originally incorporated as New York’s Metropolitan Gas Light Company – one of the city’s earliest utility providers. In 1884, the company name was changed to the Consolidated Gas Company of New York.

Later, the company would eventually become New York’s famous (or infamous depending on who you speak with) Consolidated Edison, or simply ConEd.
