Skil was founded by Edmond Michel and Joseph Sullivan in Chicago, Illinois. Skil Corporation started in 1924 as the Michel Electric Handsaw Company with the invention of the world's first portable electric handsaw -- a product introduction that forever changed the construction industry. The company was renamed Skilsaw in 1926 and Skil Corporation in 1952. Today, its ever-expanding line of cordless and corded power tools are produced as part of the Skil-Bosch Power Tool Company.
