Robeson Cutlery was founded in 1853 and later incorporated in 1879 in New York. The company’s first products were knives. The company merged with the Rochester Stamping Company in 1922. Rochester Stamping manufactured metal tea kettles starting in 1888, and about 1908 it began making electric appliances under the `Royal Rochester` trademark. The firm went through many changes before becoming Robeson Industries.

Over the years, Robeson produced waffle irons, sandwich grills, toaster ovens, percolators and later, popcorn poppers.
