Baifield was engaged in prime government contracts for military systems and sub-systems in the production of high-strength, light-weight metal products.

The company eventually was acquired by A-T-O Inc, a company that unsuccessfully attempted to by the Boston Red Sox from the Yawkey Trust. Despite having the higher bid, A-T-O (also the parent company of Rawlings Sporting Goods) lost out on the deal to a group of investors after a long legal battle.
