The Commonwealth Telephone Company was founded in 1897 on a farm in Centermoreland, Pennsylvania when an enterprising furniture maker constructed a single telephone line from his farm to a neighbor’s. It was later re-incorporated in 1950, with headquarters in Dallas, Pennsylvania. Today, Commonwealth Telephone Company is the 12th largest independent telephone company in the nation and serves over 260,000 access lines in 19 counties throughout eastern Pennsylvania.
