Essex Chemical Corporation (Specimen)

Essex Chemical Corporation (Specimen)
Item# 4060essex

Incorporated in the state of New Jersey, with headquarters in Clifton, the Essex Chemical Corporation manufactured industrial chemicals, refrigerant gases, organic intermediates, and generic drugs. In September 1988, the company was acquired by the Dow Chemical Company for a reported $366 million. The bid made Dow a white knight, protecting Essex from a hostile bid by Gurit-Heberlein A.G., a Swiss company that was Essex's partner in a venture to sell adhesives to the automobile industry in Europe.
