Item# 4060petrolewisbl

Petro-Lewis Corporation was an oil and gas drilling concern that was incorporated in Colorado.

In 1985, the Securities and Exchange Commission charged that the Petro-Lewis Corporation defrauded its shareholders and investors in an elaborate Ponzi scheme involving the company’s limited oil and gas partnerships. The SEC charged that Petro-Lewis issued false statements and failed to file proper reports with the Government. While neither admitting nor denying guilt, Petro-Lewis agreed to a consent order, which barred it from committing further violations.

The company filed for Chapter 11 protection in 1986 while involved in talks to be purchased by Freeport-McMoran Inc. The company eventually became part of Sunoco.
