Lavaca Navigation Company
The city of Port Lavaca, in response to the newly-proposed San Antonio and Mexican Gulf Railroad Company, offered to deepen the channel that ran to its wharves, and organized the Lavaca Navigation Company in 1857. The city ordered a dredge from Troy, New York to complete the project.
