Westcolang Lake and Delaware River Park

In 1887, a party of New York and Brooklyn investors organized under the name of the Westcalong Lake and Delaware River Park Association, and purchased 5,000 acres of wild forest lands in Pike County, PA, for the purpose of establishing a game and fish preserve and an attractive pleasure resort.

The property adjoined the famous 20,000-acre tract of the Blooming Grove Park Association and had easy access to New York via the Erie Railroad, which skirted the property on the banks of the Delaware River. The company planned to enhance the grounds, supplement the existing game and wildlife population and build a grand clubhouse on the shores of Lake Westcalong. The Erie even announced plans to build a station directly at the park’s new main entrance.

A New York Times’ article, dated August 19, 1887 detailed the grand plans of the park, but no other information could be located, and it is doubtful that it ever actually came to fruition.
