Aztar Corporation (Specimen)
Item# 4286aztar

In 1989 Ramada Inns, Inc. split its businesses, selling the hotel/restaurants to Hong Kong based New World Development Company for $540 million. Aztar operates three major casino hotels: the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, and the Ramada Express Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada--as well as two Casino Aztar riverboat casinos in Evansville, Indiana, and Caruthersville, Missouri.

The Tropicana Atlantic City was seized by the state after losing its license; Aztar owner Tropicana Entertainment LLC subsequently filed for bankruptcy in 2008. Aztar found itself in the middle of a takeover fight in 2006; Columbia Sussex gaming affiliate Wimar Tahoe Corp. (doing business as Columbia Entertainment) acquired the firm in 2007 for about $2 billion. After the deal, Wimar Tahoe began operating as Tropicana Entertainment LLC.
