The Colonial Steel Company was organized in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 9 1901 by James W. Brown (and associates) soon after his retirement from the Crucible Steel Company. Brown was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania from 1903 to 1905. Colonial Steel was acquired by the Vanadium Company in 1928.
