The Chicago and South Bend Railroad was chartered in Indiana and opened on February 1, 1892. The line operated 7 miles of track between South Bend and Myler and Lake Shore. The line seems to have been a product of the Studebaker family, as the listed officers in 1894 were Clement Studebaker (President), J. M. Studebaker (1st Vice President), P. E. Studebaker (2nd Vice President), Clement Studebaker, Jr. (Treasurer) and G. M. Studebaker (Secretary).
