Henry Waldron, a director of the Michigan Southern Railroad from 1846 through 1848, was active in promoting the construction of the Detroit, Hillsdale & Southwestern Railroad and served as its first president. The line was formed as a re-organization, on January 30, 1875 of the Detroit, Hillsdale and Indiana Railroad company. The line ran from Ypsilanti to Bankers, Michigan, and was leased to the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern in 1881.
