This line was incorporated in West Virginia on August 15, 1921 as Loop and Lookout Railroad Company. Initial construction of the railroad was from Dyer to Burdette Creek, both in West Virginia. The line was originally operated by the Meadow River Lumber Company in 1911. Construction of the railroad from Burdette Creek to Wilderness, West Virginia was completed in 1915. The line was then leased to the Sewell Valley and Ohio Railway Company in 1916. In 1931, the line was conveyed by deed to The Nicholas, Fayette and Greenbrier Railroad Company (NF&G;) in. The NF&G; was jointly owned by The Chesapeake and Ohio and New York Central.
