Tucker Anthony

Tucker Anthony was founded by William Tucker and S. Reed Anthony (a descendent of Mayflower pioneers Miles Standish and John Alden) in 1892. The Boston firm opened a New York office in 1908 and later merged with R.L. Day to for Tucker Anthony & R. L. Day.

The form was purchased by John Hancock in 1982 only to be spun off in a management buyout in 1996. In 2000, Tucker merged with Sutro & Company of San Francisco to form Tucker Anthony Sutro.

One of the last independent firms on Wall Street, TAS was purchased by the Royal Bank of Canada in 2002 and merged with RBC Dain Rauscher. The Tucker Anthony name was wiped off the slates and the merged companies continued under the RBC Dain Rauscher name.
